Salutism is a philosophy I invented and follow.

DEFINITION

Salutism may be defined with varying degrees of verbosity.

Definition 1: The notion that living is good.

Definition 2: The notion that maintaining your own health is intrinsically good.

Definition 3: The notion that maintaining your own physical and mental health is intrinsically good, and nothing else is intrinsically good or bad.

In a more quantifiable fashion:

Let a "Salutism point" be the metric of Salutistic value. Let us define the time interval T between your first conscious moment and your last conscious moment. The number of Salutism points you have earned is the duration of T in seconds.

Q & A

Q: Why do you follow Salutism?

A: Salutism provides a simple framework to my life so that I know what I should be doing at any time. Salutism comforts me and gives me a sense of direction.

Q: Is Salutism objectively false?

A: Yes; according to Existential Nihilism, any value proposed by a philosophy is objectively false. Therefore Salutism is objectively false.

Q: Why follow Salutism if it is objectively false?

A: The only (value-based) philosophy which is not objectively false is Existential Nihilism, and it is impossible to practice Existential Nihilism.

Q: Why is it impossible to practice Existential Nihilism?

A: Humans involuntarily make hundreds of decisions per day. Human decisions are often made through motivation; humans cannot act 100% randomly. Motivation requires adhering to some value. Therefore a human cannot follow Existential Nihilism.

Q: So you believe in Existential Nihilism, but practice Salutism?

A: Yes. I treat Salutism as my "mode of conduct", while Existential Nihilism is my "belief system".

Q: Are you void of morality?

A: Although Salutism does not have intrinsic morality, it does have extrinsic morality. In general, being kind to other people is indirectly good for your health. Therefore it is in the Salutist's best interests to be kind to people.

Q: What does a Salutist do on a day-to-day basis?

A: A Salutist lives a pretty normal lifestyle. This includes eating, sleeping, bathing, exercising, performing engaging activities, and keeping a good mood.

Q: What is the etymology of the word "Salutism"?

A: The Latin word salus, salutis means "health".

Q: Can I be a Salutist? Should I be a Salutist? Are you forcing me to be a Salutist??

A: It is technically in a Salutist's best interests for other people to be Salutists. Therefore I gently and kindly encourage you to become a Salutist; however, I will not reprimand you for not being a Salutist. You may derive the same benefits from Salutism that I have.
